The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen brings to life the stories of the people who used to live by the former Zuiderzee sea. See, hear, feel and taste life as it was by the sea before the Afsluitdijk great barrier dam changed it into the IJsselmeer lake in 1932. The museum focuses on the area’s history, current status and future. The themes of water, crafts and communities take central stage. The stories are visualised in both the historical buildings of the outdoor museum and the thematic exhibitions at the indoor museum.
