In the 13th century, Count Floris V had a burrow constructed in Medemblik, by the Almere, the present-day IJsselmeer. The burrow was part of a series of five bastions intended to keep the rebellious West-Frisians under control. The only castle that still stands today, is the castle in Medemblik. When you visit Radboud Castle, a gorgeous wall carpet will show you why Floris V constructed the castle.
