Experience the Golden Age in Hoorn

Anyone visiting the harbour city of Hoorn this year simply won’t be able to miss it. Hoorn is the ‘City of the Golden Age’. Wander through the historic city centre and you’ll see traces of that rich history literally everywhere you look. You’ll feel like you’re stepping back in time by four hundred years when you enter the harbour area.

The city has an impressive three Golden Age museums: the Westfries Museum, the VOC Museum Ship ‘De Halve Maen’ (The Crescent Moon) and Museumhuis Bonck. You can learn all about Hoorn and the Golden Age within a radius of less than a kilometre. How people lived, who they traded with, which important discoveries were made, or the type of art which used to feature on Hoorn’s walls.

Various extra special activities have been organised, as 2019 is the Year of Rembrandt and the Golden Age. There are numerous ways of discovering the Golden Age in Hoorn. Enjoy a walk along the beautiful VOC buildings in the historic harbour and city centre, sit in a comfortable Virtual Reality chair, sail on the 17th century Halve Maen ship, or take a seat on a terrace with fantastic views of the spectacular light and sound show!
