Gassan wins prize for Best Family Business in the Netherlands

Gassan has been declared this year’s Best Family Business in the Netherlands by the Family Enterprise Foundation in partnership with KPMG.

The award will be presented during the Big Improvement Day for the first time this year. The award is an initiative of John Fentener van Vlissingen, the CEO of the family business BCD Travel. Fentener van Vlissingen decided to create this award because family businesses are the motor of the Dutch economy, and create economic growth and employment. In addition, family businesses often have a lower public profile, which means they sometimes do not get the recognition they deserve.

Gassan Diamonds, a traditional family business, is based in the historic steam-powered diamond cutting factory in the heart of old Amsterdam. The company’s main activities are diamond cutting and the wholesale and retail trade of both loose and set diamonds, diamond and gold jewellery, and watches. Gassan Diamonds is a market leader within the diamond world, which was solidified with the introduction of the proprietary diamond cut, the Gassan 121.

The diamond cutting factory in Amsterdam was proud to welcome its 377,596th visitor on 31 December 2012, which set a new record. Visitors to the factory are given a free guided tour, during which they discover how the quality of diamonds is determined, followed by a chance to examine individual cut diamonds and jewels for themselves.
