The municipality of Enkhuizen opened five shore power locations for river cruise vessels in early April, making generators a thing of the past in the port of Enkhuizen. The shore power facilities have been installed on the Gependam and the Lussenburg quay. These docking locations are the closest to the historical centre, the bus stops for touring cars and the train station. The remaining berths for river cruise vessels, such as the Nieuwe Harlingen quay, will not be equipped with shore power. They will soon only be used as drop-off and pick-up points, with cruise vessels able to dock there with an active generator for two hours at most. Enkhuizen wishes to remain an important port for leisure sailing and fishing as well as sailing & motoryacht charters and cruise vessels. Providing shore power contributes to this goal by reducing the inconvenience caused by exhaust fumes and noise from engines and generators.
