Annual report 2017 | River cruises confirm their economic significance in 2017

The year 2017 will be remembered as one in which the economic importance of the river cruise sector was confirmed by a comprehensive study. The sector was found to have a turnover of more than 207 million euros, generate added value of over 87 million euros, and provide employment for 1,690 people. The study into the economic importance of the river cruise sector was the most important achievement of the policy plan ‘We are your Amsterdam cruise portal’ and the resulting Strategic Agenda 2017-2021, published in early 2017. This showed that, in addition to its promotional activities, ACP also takes the interests of the cruise industry seriously in terms of policy. A major finding was that municipal policy has consequences for the cruise sector and that ACP therefore needs to make the voice of the sector heard by the local authorities in a timely fashion. ACP is part of the dialogue on three hot topics: the bridge over the IJ, the proposal to move the passenger terminal PTA to a location outside the city centre, and the stress caused by excessive numbers of visitors in the Amsterdam downtown. Furthermore, ACP has done a great deal of promotional work for the sector. This included participation in the Seatrade Cruise exhibitions in Fort Lauderdale and Hamburg, the informative Knowledge Sessions and the fully-booked study trips to the cities in the ACP region. The joining of the municipality of Huizen was a win-win situation for the municipality and for the ACP in view of its diversification policy. The fully restyled annual report 2017 can be found on the ACP site (in Dutch).
