We spoke to Kirsty den Dulk of Citymarketing Den Helder on the phone. She had some great tips for activities in Den Helder. Main topics are history, safety and Navy. Starting of on the 9th of June a couple of WW2 Bunkers will be open. These where part of the wel known Atlantic wall, a chain of coast defence bunkers ranging from Norway till the gulf of Biscay. In the hospital bunker visitors will have the opportunity to watch a short production of “four woman” that will give the viewer an impression what life was like for woman during the war. If you are visiting Den Helder the 23rd and 24th of June, it is advised to enjoy the historical weekend with beautiful old-timers and the lively marketplace with a large variety of fresh fish. Starting from June 26th till the 28th of august, Kirsty den Dulk, informs us of the Juttersmarkt in the centre every Tuesday, you will find all kinds of 2nd hand things. Another highlight is the guided tour of the Old Rijkswerf Willemsoord. These days it is a nautical theme park with lots of nightlife options and historical sights. For a guided tour please call: +31-223-616100. In this Marine city the Modern Marine museum is a must see. Guest can go on board a submarine and have a look on the preserved bridge of the guided missile frigate HrMS De Ruyter with its radar dome. The National Rescue Museum “Dorus Rijkers” tells the history of the Dutch sea rescue and the situation now. All of this and we haven’t even mentioned the Tropical Hortus Overzee Garden, the Forts Kijkduin and Westoever from the Napoleon era, the Sea Aquarium and the Climing Valley. “Did you know by the way that the 7km stretch of beachside get the most sun in the Netherlands?” is how Kirsty den Dulk finishes our telephone call.
